The Group of Medical Entomology in the Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical (IHMT) Lisbon, Portugal  aims to study vector-borne diseases, contributing to their control. The group provides support to the community through participation in monitoring studies, environmental impact evaluations, advice on control measures in institutional proposals, and networks with industry.

It develops research on the vectors of animal and human diseases like:

1) Parasitic diseases  of greater global impact (e.g. malaria, leishmaniasis, trypanosomiasis (Chagas disease and sleeping sickness))

2) Emerging / re-emerging infections (e.g, Dengue fever and West Nile Fever)

The research areas include: bio-ecology, population genetics, systematics, epidemiology, etc. The connection to the industry and the inclusion of new sections according to the funding agencies is also a priority.

Therefore, we announce our interest to participate as partners in applications to the 2011 call of the LIFE + Program.

In this context, we have particular interest in projects regarding environment and health (e.g environmental management and (re) emergence of vector-borne diseases and assessing the impact of environmental changes).
